rather than后面加do或者doing都可以。具体的使用情形分为两种：1、跟情态动词would,should,will等连用构成固定搭配,有时rather than可以分开,意为“宁可”、“与其……倒不如”.此时,"rather than+ do sth".rather than在不跟情态动词(would, will)等连用时，仅仅表示否定，译为“而不是”。这种用法的rather than叫做准并列连词，在语义上相当于and not。但是，必须注意，它往往连接词性相同的词项。2、作准并列连词,相等于and not,意义为：是...,而不是...:可以+doing 或 to do.

如：What will happen if we make it rather than buy it?I prefer to call him rather than (to) write a letter. （第二个不定式的to可省略）I prefer calling him ranther than writing a letter.
